Not Your Average Jane is a blog set up to give you ideas on not your average places to see, things to do, drink and eat all over the world.

Living in London I tend to avoid the main tourist attractions but with my Mum visiting for the weekend I decided it was about time that I made a visit to The Shard. Despite looking to buy tickets a month in advance, unfortunately 'The View from The Shard' was completely sold out, so instead I decided to reserve a table at 'GŎNG Bar: Shangri-La Hotel located on the 52nd floor. I booked our table for 8:30pm so that we could watch the sunset over London.

On arrival we were given a very warm welcome, in fact the service was seamless throughout the rest of the night. We were instructed how to reach ‘the highest bar in London’ via the two lifts. Once seated, we ordered our drinks from the creative cocktail menu, inspired by the greatest movie directors of past and present. I went for 'A Cat With No Name' inspired by Blake Edwards which came in a cute china tea cup and saucer. I was more than happy to take up the offer of complimentary nibbles to accompany my cocktail as it was very strong!

We made the most of the dramatic backdrop of The Tower of London and Tower Bridge and took lots of lovely photos with the light slowly fading over London.

I would highly recommend having a cocktail at GŎNG Bar as an alternative to 'The View from The Shard'. Although one cocktail will set you back around £20 - snacks, impeccable service and great views over the city are included! The table is yours for two hours and you are not expected to order more than the one cocktail;so sit back, relax and enjoy the chilled out atmosphere.
